Obesity and Cardiovascular Diseases

Obesity is a major cause of many cardiovascular conditions. Weight gain during young adult life is one of the main causes of cardiovascular risk factors. Increased abdominal fat and waist circumference is directly related to increased risks of cholesterol that include hypertension and heart attack.

Key Factors of Obesity include:

  • Inheritance - Risk factors of obesity tend to occur in children whose parents are obese. This group of children faces higher risks for cardiovascular disease than those without an obese family history. However, weight gain occurs differently in men and women. Men with a high BMI (Body Mass Index) at an old age tend to gain weight more than those with a lower BMI. In contrast, younger women are more likely to be in the weight gain bracket.
  • Genetics – We all carry genes that are directly related to our parents’ body size. Gene linkage analysis is used to determine physical locations of transferred genes from parent to children. There are specific genes that play a role in the determination of a given character like obesity; this character determining gene is transmitted across generations.
  • Environmental factors – The surrounding environment and various environmental factors greatly affect the expression of obesity from generation to generation. The relative contribution of cholesterol and health that involve high fat diets and lack of active physical activities leads to obesity. Collectively, it is important to have a primary prevention of obesity at an early age and emphasize the role of good health behaviors including active physical activities. Diet intake need modification practices focused on preventing the obese person from cardiovascular disease obesity.

There are a lot of effects of obesity on cardiovascular health, whereby one of the most prominent is hypertension. Contemporary risks concerning the link between obesity and subsequent blood pressure have been observed to have a close relation due to increased body weight.
